Im April 2006 beschlossen Jackson Mubiru und der Südafrikaner Shael Swart die erste Miniramp Ugandas zu bauen. Sie sparten Geld und schafften es mit der Hilfe von Familie und Freunden ihr kleines Projekt zu realisieren. Ein Kanadier namens Brian Lye nutzte seine Kontakte um Skateboards aus Kanada zu organisieren. Das kleine Projekt wurde größer und mit Hilfe von Spenden aus der ganzen Welt wuchs die Miniramp zu einem kleinen Skatepark heran.

The Uganda Skateboard Union is setting out to combat idleness and boredom among the youth of Uganda by providing an new, positive and fun outlet for them. This outlet is skateboarding. The Organsiation will focus in teaching and training Ugandan youth how to skateboard. The Uganda Skateboard Union also wants to help create bright and aware members of society so it will enforce the importance of education, teach the youth about health and sanitation issues, and educate the youth on Aids.

Inzwischen scheint das Projekt schon recht professionell (für afrikanische Verhältnisse) zu sein. Es gibt einen Blog, eine website und natürlich eine Spendenmöglichkeit. Die Firma birdhouse Skateboards und die Tony Hawk Foundation haben ihre längerfristige Unterstützung zugesagt. Ist schon enorm was man mit Hilfe des Internet alles erreichen kann.
